Distance – 32 km (8km unsealed), Nelson / Blenheim 100km
High in the north of the Southern Alps beside Nelson Lakes National Park is one of New
Zealand's most beautiful ski and snowboard areas, Rainbow Ski Area. Take the chairlift to
magnificent views over the alpine wonderland, the native beech forests, shimmering lakes
and out to Tasman Bay, before skiing or boarding down the smooth, sunny, uncrowded slopes
and trails.
Superb Snow
Reaching 1758 metres and covering 350 hectares, Rainbow has excellent natural snow and offers
every type of terrain for beginner, intermediate, advanced and racer. To keep the snow fresh
and smooth, snowmaking is done through the night, so you can have a better day's skiing and
boarding.
Despite the family nature of our ski area, there's a wide range of advanced and expert terrain
across the East Face and the West Bowl. Experts won't be disappointed by the chutes.
Intermediates will appreciate the rolling terrain and undulating nature of the blue runs while
learners will feel right at home on the Handle Tow. Even though there's access to chute skiing
and powder runs from the chairlift, there are easy ways down which means long runs with plenty
of time, space and snow for improving learners.
Café & Sun Terrace
The Café and Sun Terrace is a great place to relax with friends for hearty snacks,
piping hot coffee, tea or chocolate, and other refreshments. You may wish to bring your barbeque
for a fry-up in the car park.
