Whakapapa Ski Area is New Zealand’s largest developed ski area, with 550 hectare
(1360 acres). Whakapapa Ski Area is located on the north-western slopes of Mt Ruapehu.
Sister field Turoa is
located on the south-western slope of Mt Ruapehu. Lift passes are valid at both Whakapapa and Turoa
Ski Area.
With it large size Whakapapa Ski Area has great variety and terrain for both skiing and snowboarding.
Whakapapa has a safe enviroment for beginners a that is separate from the main ski area. For intermediate
and advanced skiers and boarders there are 30 groomed trails and a huge variety of off-piste areas.
Whakapapa Ski Area has plenty to offer for boarders with special features to keep them entertained,
including the Moro Halfpipe, as well as a beginner to intermediate Terrain Park.
Directions
Turning off Highway 47 toward Ruapehu brings you to The Grand Chateau. From there
the 8km Bruce Road winds to the Top O' the Bruce where there are car parks for 2000 cars.
The road is sealed all the way.
